All are invited to Building Enclosure Council's next presentation by Douglas Stieve, AIA, RRC, Principal at WJE. This session is free and includes lunch. His presentation will initially focus on the evaluation of plaza and roof decks to determine their feasibility to support a plaza or vegetative roof system including the waterproofing membrane and the overburden. We will review structural loading requirements of roof decks, evaluate the suitability of different decks prior to waterproofing and evaluate the ability of different waterproofing systems for different deck conditions.
The later part of the presentation will concentrate on the drying of concrete prior to the application of a waterproofing membrane system. We will review different tests for moisture content of concrete roof decks prior to waterproofing. We will also determine alternate approaches to drying concrete roof decks and how to mitigate moisture both in the initial design and in the field.
