ABOUT ABOUT

Dear Living Building Challenge enthusiasts - mark your calendars for our Energy Petal Workshop, the third in our year-long Demonstration Project feasibility study.

On June 22nd, the LBC Philadelphia Collaborative in partnership with AIA COTE and DVGBC, will host the Energy Petal Workshop at the Center for Architecture. Bring your passion for renewable energy and energy conservation, or interest in learning more about them. Please come participate in an in-depth analysis of the Living Building Challenge, Net Positive Energy imperative and help produce a feasibility assessment for the conceptual design of a building for Pendle Hill. We are grateful to our members Shannon Kaplan and Brendan McGrath from In-Posse, to Marcus Sheffer from Seven Group and Daniel Chung from Drexel University for helping prepare a workshop that will teach us the art of achieving Net Positive Energy.

If you are interested in participating in this exciting event please let us know as soon as possible, as space is limited. Final confirmation of your spot will be no later than Friday, June 17th. All skillsets and experience levels are welcome and encouraged!

Course Description:

If you have a passion for renewable energy and energy conservation and are a project stakeholder, design professional, builder, educator and a member of the green building community - please come and participate as we conduct an in-depth analysis of the Living Building Challenge's Net Positive Energy Imperative against a conceptual project to see if it can meet the demanding requirements. The workshop will address building energy use, how to start to estimate PV production, and how building envelope can impact energy and comfort.

Learning Objectives:

·  Acquire an understanding of what changes impact building energy use the most.

·  Learn to estimate the amount of energy a solar panel system can generate.

·   Analyze the building envelope and how it impacts energy and comfort.

·  Calculate if a project will be likely to achieve net positive energy.
