ABOUT ABOUT

The Building Enclosure Council – Philadelphia is excited to invite you to our next event, “A Case for Dynamic Glazing in Pediatric Patient Rooms” to learn about recent research in a case study performed by Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

This presentation will present research showing improved patient outcomes due to daylight and views in healthcare facilities. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) recently undertook a pilot study to determine if dynamic glazing in pediatric patient room contributed to improved thermal and visual comfort and improved patients/family sense of control over their environment. In this pilot study, two south-facing pediatric inpatient rooms were retrofitted with dynamic glazing dual pane windows; the blinds/shades system was maintained to allow for privacy within the urban setting. An adjacent designated control room containing a standard window with blinds/shades were observed simultaneously. Data was collected for more than half a year. This presentation will detail the study purpose and hypothesis, data collection and design, data analysis and results. Please join the two presenters: Mary Alcaraz, PE, LC, CEM, LEED AP BD+C, Senior Project Manager, Facilities Project Management at CHOP, and Maure Creager, LEED AP BD+C, Building Science Manager at SAGE Glass as they discuss the results of their research.

Learning Objectives:

Learn the benefits of dynamic glazing in an inpatient setting.
Learn modes of control for dynamic glazing (automated vs. manual).
Learn the pros and cons of a wired vs. non-wired dynamic glazing solution.
Learn how dynamic glazing can increase the wellness of pediatric patients.
