2030 WG Session: “Thermal Comfort: an Alternative Energy Metric”

By AIA Philadelphia (other events)

ABOUT ABOUT

You’re invited to join the AIA Philadelphia Committee on the Environment to learn more about the 2030 Commitment, to share knowledge, and to improve practice. Architects have an important role to play in addressing the climate crisis. In Philadelphia, buildings alone contribute to more than 70% of the city’s greenhouse gas emissions. In Part 3 of the 2030 Working Group, we will focus
on leveraging environmental design analysis to simulate building performance and improve building design, paving the road to net zero in 2030.

Learning Objectives for this session include:
1. Explore the difference between energy efficiency and energy sufficiency.
2. Define thermal comfort.
3. Describe how switching the baseline simulation metric from energy (EUI) to thermal comfort can indirectly result in greater energy savings.
4. Identify different tools for modelling thermal comfort in buildings.
