The FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction documents are the design standards most often employed by medical planners, designers, and owners of hospitals and outpatient facilities. Changes to requirements for a myriad of spaces in hospitals and outpatient facilities are being considered for the 2018 edition. Learn how these and other revisions may affect the planning and design of new construction and major renovation projects. This session will also review the “scrubbing” of the 2014 documents (e.g., removing outdated requirements, identifying best practice versus minimum requirements, and clearing up conflicts) and how cost/benefit analysis will be a factor in determining the final language.

Learning Objectives
Understand the proposed changes for the design of clinical spaces in healthcare facilities and the reasoning behind them. Learn how FGI is reinventing its process to more rigorously examine, balance, and document its design requirements based on best available evidence. Identify strategies used by FGI to enhance new content for 2018 and substantiate current requirements in the 2014 edition. Explore how the updated Guidelines can provide a safe, more effective patient care environment at a reasonable cost.

Lunch will be provided by Steris
