ABOUT ABOUT

Please attend the next BEC-Philly Presentation as we explore energy efficient prefabricated wall systems through case studies with two presenters, Wayne Martin, Mid-Atlantic Region President at EEWS and Ken Loush, PE, Chief Designer at EEWS.

Architecture in 2017 is an exciting profession!  Architects combine their education and experience with progressive tools such as BIM, Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, Dynamo, 3D printing, etc. to design buildings with complex shapes and features along with  strict energy efficiency codes that weren’t considered 20, 10 or even 5 years ago.  This complexity challenges those tasked with construction of these structures.   Society’s instant gratification mentality and the demands of owners who want their buildings turned around in no time to maximize their benefit adds to the difficulty factor.

This presentation will explore one possible solution – prefabrication.  Benefits of the exterior wall prefabrication process will be examined through case studies, including BAM South (Brooklyn) and Cornell Residence (Roosevelt Island, NY).

Learning Objectives:

1.    Identify the benefits of prefabricated exterior walls,
2.    Review the process of prefabrication,
3.    Understand the range of options available to the Project Team through prefabrication –
barrier walls or rain screens, gasket joints or caulk joints, any material known to man,
4.    Examine the energy efficiency of prefabricated exterior wall panels.

Speaker Bio:

Wayne Martin, Midlantic Region President, is responsible for Eastern’s business in the Midlantic Region and brings forty years of progressive construction experience to each project and client he serves.   Starting in 1967, his early experience was as a construction tradesman where he developed his practical knowledge of different trades and the importance of how each are interrelated.  In 1972, after receiving his bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University in civil engineering, he rose through engineering and management positions at one of the largest national mechanical contracting firms where he learned careful attention to mechanical and structural detail is an indispensable component of a good building.  He spent the next 25 years as a general contractor/construction manager in the capacities of superintendent, project manager, vice president, officer, and part owner earning numerous awards for building excellence.   This journey secured his commitment to creative thoughtful planning, direct communication, robust work ethic, and personal involvement and for that is renowned for his construction expertise.   In 2001, Wayne joined Eastern because its core philosophy is to devote the highest skill, knowledge and dedication to its products and services, which is the right environment to apply his leadership and experienced hands-on approach to each customer’s need for reliable high quality wall systems.

Kenneth Loush, P.E., is Chief Designer for Eastern Exterior Wall Systems, Inc., a turn-key, single source building enclosure contractor headquartered in Allentown, PA with fabrication facilities in Easton, PA, Forks Township, PA and Long Island, NY.  Ken has 17 years of experience with EEWS working in the past as Director of Drafting, Engineering and Design as well as Chief Engineer.   Ken is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Cold Formed Steel Engineers Institute and the National Institute of Building Science. He graduated Lehigh University with a BSCE in 1976.
