This year’s Urban Design Committee will be investigating cycling within Philadelphia with a lens on the effects Socially, Culturally, Economically and Infrastructurally within the city

A multidisciplinary panel assembled for a candid discussion regarding their committee's campaigns regarding bicycling in Philadelphia. Possible topics to include:

How is a cycling culture cultivated and how could it be cultivated in Philadelphia?
How is the current cycling infrastructure is integrated into Philadelphia’s Urban Fabric?
What are the current plans and where are potential missing pieces (potential specific case studies where there are bicycle deserts) compared with other areas where a strong bicycle infrastructure exists in Philadelphia and other urban environments nationally and internationally?
Who are the stakeholders and what are their roles (current and potential)?
What are lessons learned within Philadelphia

Learning Objectives:

Understand the value of cycling infrastructure for the economy, culture and a sustainable environment
Evaluate current and future environment regarding promoting a car-free lifestyle and consequently decreases traffic congestion and space required for parking.
Apply information for designing for cycling to improve the quality of public spaces in the city
Create future designs that improve the quality of public spaces in the city by include cycling
